1. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is soluble in cold water, but difficult to dissolve in hot water. It can quickly disperse in hot water at the initial stage and dissolve quickly when cooled. They are less dispersible in water than methylcellulose (MC) and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC).
Their solutions are stable at high temperatures and do not gel. They last longer at high temperatures in mortar, but have lower water retention than methyl cellulose(MC).
2. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is stable to general acid and alkali. Alkali can speed up its dissolution and slightly increase the viscosity.
3. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) can improve the sag resistance of the mortar, but prolong the setting time of the cement.
4. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) has high water content and high ash content, so their performance is lower than that of Methyl Cellulose (MC). However, the water retention capacity of HEC is twice that of HPMC, it has better flow regulation, and the ability of protective colloid is the strongest.
